Is relevant and useful content feeds an impossible task?

The more I observe what Linkedin feed is showing, the more I am returning to my old idea (when feeds just started), that they don't know what I want to see.

Sure, there is some vague relevancy in the broad topics or personalities known in the industries I am into. But to be blunt, I feel like I am seeing lots of crap and noise to signal ratio has gone through the roof. However, I also noticed that I occasionally stumble upon older posts that I "connect" with, but my feed never thought to show those to me.

I am losing trust in this technology every day.

Yes, I am sure it is very hard to solve. Perhaps, it requires some shady privacy violations, which I would not support. But I am nearing the conclusion that the net value of feeds in my life is going into the negative zone.

The band-aid solution I've chosen for myself (for now) is to do my best to go to the "source" and subscribe to the person's email list directly. I don't trust the feeds and whatever their engineers and product managers decide that they want me to see. Taking this decision back (as much as it's feasible =)

How do you feel about feeds? Are they net positive, neutral, or a net negative?
