🧫 Is it MVP or what?

Ciao friends!

I just came back from a trip to Cologne Germany, which is spelled weirdly differently from the original Köln. Very curious why someone gave it such a different name for the English spelling. They have this enormous cathedral, 3rd largest in the world 😮

I am not a huge fan of gothic architecture, but you just can't ignore this epic structure that was being built for over 600+ years 😱 Wiki.

I had an interesting observation during this trip to North-West Germany (Koblenz, Bonn, Cologne, and Aachen). First of all, WTF about the paid restrooms?? Still a shocker after Vancouver. No wonder I keep seeing people peeing in the bushes and on the streets =)

Secondly, most restaurants we went to had a restroom downstairs AND there was a woman sitting next to a table with a price tag and a cup for coins 😵 This was an interesting refresher from my childhood memories of public restrooms in the USSR when they were even giving you a few pieces of tp 🤦‍♂️

Oddly, this observation reminded me of the MVP concept in the digital world. The service, the restroom, in this case, didn't want to invest in building an automated payments system, and instead relied on a human "behind the scenes" to process tickets and collect money.

It is similar to how many startups begin their journey by doing things manually. It's faster to get operational this way and usually requires less $ =) Paul Graham wrote an interesting piece and I recommend reading it if you are interested in lean startups, MVPs, etc.
